The story can't be true

a remix of phrases from Robert Fagles' translation of book 23

by HANNAH DIGGS

The story can't be true, not as you tell it,
The gods have made you mad. All I heard was
the choking groans of men cut down in blood.
You with your hard heart. Thanks to your reckless work,
they die their deaths. The crafty rascal

splattered with bloody filth, Kill me with a
thousand knives of pain! You've conquered my heart, my
hard heart, at last! A lion with his kill
A gentle, painless death, far from sea
it comes.
